Project Details
In July & August I’m heading to Morocco to build another PlaySpace for kids. This PlaySpace will be a digitally interactive PlaySpace, made modular and with recycled materials so that it could be rebuilt and replicated anywhere, by anyone, especially in the developing parts of the world.
The design of the various modules will be based on gameplay components taken from the traditional games, that can be reproduced easily, and reorganised in various ways and scales, to create many different ways of representing or building the PlaySpace. Like a giant puzzle, the components can be arranged in new ways to create different versions of the PlaySpace. Once this project is completed as a prototype, and installed, the plan is to create the project as an open source platform, to share it around, and build various versions of it. Playgrounds and PlaySpaces are extremely important in the early developments during childhood, not only in social development, but also in problem solving and creative thinking, and this project is about making these spaces more accessible.
The project will initially be developed in Tetouan, Morocco, over a 6 week period in July/August 2017. The funding for this project would go towards the research, design and the build of the first prototype. Once completed, a series of manuals for each module would also be made so that the project can be shared around!
The images added are of examples of past projects and directions the PlaySpace could take.
