Urgent Playground Needs for MMEC children
About 200 children and youths have a safe and healing environment from the free education offered to them in MMEC. Our grounds however, are bare and these children are not allowed to go beyond the school compound because of safety reasons. All the teenagers have been able to participate in ball games like soccer, volleyball and kick ball. The younger ones however, can only play with whatever they can find in the field.
So a Team consisting of teachers decided to initiate a playground to meet the play needs of the young children and came up with the Playground proposal. Playing is an important component of social emotional learning which has been embedded in the Early Childhood Education and having the outdoor playground, it will further enhance the social emotional growth of these young early learners.
We propose to build a playground for under 13 years old children by using recycled materials to create climbers, seesaws, swings, monkey bars, and slides. This will give children a fun and sustainable play area. Using recycled materials for the playground is eco-friendly and reduces costs. This project will provide migrant and refugee children with a healthy, supportive environment that promotes their physical, social and emotional development.
