Lamo Chaur Community Park has been a public greenspace in Patan for decades. Currently, the park comprises four adjacent grassy lots, divided by private driveways, each with a small, peripheral chain-link fences. Adequate play equipment existed at some point, but when we began, only one corroded metal slide, one damaged but still used cement ping pong table and two small metal bars remained.
In collaboration with Shree Saraswoti Yuva Pariwar (SSYP), an active temple and community club, adjacent to Lamo Chaur, an energetic youth group, The Generation Green, and our community of expatriate families, we aim to redevelop, revitalize and give back to this amazing community.
Phase 1 was a HUGE SUCCESS!! In the first plot, we successfully: prepared the site by removing an old slide, small metal bars, and heaps of rubbish and debris; installed a metal swing-set and monkey bars; built a sandbox, canopy and four benches out of bamboo; fixed wooden balance beams and stepping stumps; created a massive mud hill with two plastic slides; and refurbished the ping pong table.
