Project Details

The Goodwill Centre has a very small playground with rusty play equipement which needs replacing and upgrading. This Centre serves a deparately poor urban village of about 100 families, without water, sanitation and living in the equivalent of garden sheds. This Centre provides education and play activities for all ages of children when they are not at school (1/2 day only. for primary children) It also provides many other humaitarian sevices including medical care and food where necessary. This work is all essential and to improve the playground money must be taken for something else which is impossible. I am desparatly trying to find a sponser who might help with the cost, ideas as to how we can achieve this and where we could source the equipment in Cambodia. Rotary Cambodia have offered help with the logistics In addition am also looking for a sponser for the cost of football and sports for this Centre ( $40 per month for transport + $20 for the coach) The space at the centre is very limited, just a very small concrete playground. Currently the football team has to practice at a local school, where the pitch is covered with stones and very hard to play on, particularly as the children don't have shoes. Another charity in Sihanoukville with large, well maintained football fields has offered for us to use their pitch, however they are located on the other side of town and we have no form of transport to take the children there. What we would like to do is hire a van once week to transport the children. Two of these trips would be for the football team, and two for all the children at the center to attend, allowing them real sports afternoons, where we can play large sports games together. These children have NO toys, a tin can is the only ball they know outside the centre. Having this opportunity would be beneficial to all the children, not only because of the physical benefits of exercise, but also because of the confidence building, the self discipline, and being able to work in a team. All qualities that they will need in the future. (Goodwill Centre is funded by very small UK Charity HELP THE CAMBODIAN CHILDREN) CENTRE INFORMATION http://goodwillcentersihanoukville.wordpress.com/about/
