As mentioned in my introduction, Breds Treasure Beach Foundation, of which I am a Director with special interest in education and early childhood initiatives, needs help in designing a playground space at their local community sports park. Located under a shady lignum vitae grove (see gallery for images) the area has lots of potential! In my vision, the play area would consist of structures that incorporate using the trees (like forts/tree houses), local features such as old boats (all things fishing as that is the mainstay of this area) and tires alongside commercial grade equipment that we could purchase with funds raised so far -- it would be a happy coming together of different materials to give the space a natural feel and allow the kids to build on what was there with their imaginations. I would like to see a plan in place that looks at the space from a broad perspective and include all sorts of things to appeal to different ages and abilities so that when the funds do become available we can flesh the area out more -- that's why I didn't put a fundraising goal as I'm not sure what we can do with what we have and what we should try to raise. Jamaica has little to no public parks and in particular public parks with playgrounds -- making it even more challenging to source equipment and designers who are capable of this kind of project -- as such your kind assistance is asked in helping us make a great play space for the kids in Treasure Beach, and although I think we will find volunteers locally, I would be happy to discuss the possibility of volunteers and builders coming to stay in our community to get the job done. Please feel free to contact mefor more information and or visit our website at www.breds.org. Thanks for listening, Laura
