Project Details

This playground project was completed in mid-July 2011. The build started on July 4th and playgrounds were finished on July 22nd. Community volunteers built climbing equipment, a variation of the "Triple Shrimp", and swing sets. Playground areas were also rearranged to make sure there was a safe distance between different play equipment and children had space to run and explore. Play equipment was mainly built with steel frames, used motorcycle and car tires, and used seatbelts. The students of the Phimai Technical College generously donated their time to weld the steel frames. Around 30 community volunteers offered their time and skilled labor to build the play equipment. A trainer and two youth volunteers from Duang Prateep Foundation kicked-off the build by a one-day training on playground design, safety, and building techniques. The designs are a variation of Duang Prateep Foundation's playground equipment and were changed to meet the abilities and safety guidelines of children age two to four years old. There are over 100 children at the Child Development Centers who now have fun and safe playgrounds to explore. Since the project's completion, children from the neighboring schools have been coming every day to play on the new equipment. They especially love to walk and hop along the tires buried into the ground.
