Project Details
RISE Now is a 501c3 public charity organization based in the United States that has been working towards building playgrounds of recycled tires in rural Mexico since 2012. Our aim is to empower individuals as they find ways to take action in service of others and the environment and Playgrounds are the perfect vehicle for our mission.
We have built 15 playgrounds, involving over 300 volunteers from 7 countries, saving well over 2000 tires from land fills and incineration, and effecting an estimated 4500 kids annually.
Our program addresses many issues at once:
- Education- Play is essential to early child brain development
- Health- by using tires we reduce discarded tires that serve as mosquito breeding grounds and the diseases they carry.
- Environment- Many tires in Mexico are incinerated to make concrete releasing a cocktail of chemicals into our environment
- Community- Through the shared mission of our projects we build community that crosses borders of culture, religion, language and more
- Empowerment- By participating in our work people learn new skills, communities see the results of their collective efforts and all feel hope
In January and February of 2016, with your help, we plan to have our must ambitious year to date. Our team of volunteers and organizers aim to build 10 playgrounds in Southern Mexico, nearly doubling what we have done to date. We will do this together, through a network of dedicated volunteers, a crowd of donors and a lot of hard work.
Over the past 3 years we have developed a collection of tested designs appropriate for Mexico, many inspired by PlaygroundIdeas, and a team of leaders ready to spread the work. We have partnered with local organizations such as Natik, global organizations such as Fair Trade International , schools and individuals to get the work done.
