Play UC Davis in Tanzania

Project Details

We are members of the UC Davis community, including current and former students from different academic backgrounds, joined together to design and create self-sustaining play spaces that benefit surrounding neighborhoods in Iringa, Tazania. Play Havens is comprised of individuals with different specialties from sciences and libearl arts. Their skills are being utilized to design and build a playground using sustainable materials and to inspire local community members in Iringa and Davis to raise funds and awareness about the importance of early child development and play.

We are working together with Playground Ideas and KaBoom!, to follow their examples for community involvement and sustainable design. Working together to raise funds with students and businesses in Iringa, we plan to match what ever resources are generated locally in Tanzania. Our goal is to use recycled, donated, or reusable materials acquired from the community in Iringa to build a playground or playgrounds from June - August in 2012.
