Project Details

We began this project because we heard comments from locals in Bouarfa that there were no playgrounds at the seven elementary schools (madrasas). We talked to the Ministry of Education here and they loved the idea. So we started building them, and did so at all of the schools that had space (five in total). Then a neighboring town about two hours away, Bouanane, heard about it, and they asked to have one built there, too, this time at the Women's Center. Another volunteer decided to build one at a Youth Center in Jorf (about 7 hours away), which we did. A neighboring town from there heard about it and asked that we build one at the elementary school there (Goulmima). Recycled tire playgrounds have been being built on a regular basis since this time throughout Morocco, at either the community's request, or a volunteer's suggestion. The $500 noted was to build all 5 playgrounds in Bouarfa, plus the ones in Bouanane and Goulmima. This even paid for our purchase of a nice drill. Each playground cost about $30 to build at a minimum of two structures at each location.
