Day 74: Swing Tractor Flat Maxi Hammock
Posted by Elizabeth Moreno

The "Swing Tractor Flat Maxi Hammock" is a giant tire swing many children can share together. Just make sure you pick a tire with no steel in its tread.

When planning your playground build, think about what local industries or companies are in your community that might be an asset to the build, particularly in sourcing tires. Telecommunication companies, mining operations, agricultural industries, car repair garages, and roads authorities are usually running operations with many vehicles and thereby many used tires (and that's where you'll find big, tractor tires.) It never hurts to ask!

In our experience, when we've spoken managers of these companies and explained that we are building a playground to benefit children in the community, they have often been happy to help out and donate their used tires. This is true even in areas where used tires are worth resale value. If they make a large donation it's always nice to send follow-up pictures or invite them to the opening ceremony. Who knows, they might supply more tires for your next build! Do you have any tips for getting your hands on tires for a playground build? Let us know in the comments.
